HRG 2020 Season

The season started almost two months late at Lime Rock in July and finished up at Watkins Glen in October.  Although we lost two events early this year we were able to get 7 points races in over 4 race weekends. There are 5 classes of cars effectively based on engine displacement, HRG-1 (under 1300cc) to HRG-5 (all V8s and larger). All the cars run on track at the same time but only score points within their group.

About HRG

The NEDiv Historic Racing Group (“HRG”) is a committee, under the Northeast Division of the Sports Car Club of America, Inc.,  which governs wheel to wheel racing for the SCCA accepted series formerly known as the Volvo Historic Series. The Group is not associated with any one region but is part of the Northeast Division of the SCCA. The Group shall abide by the SCCA by-laws of the current GCR, the Historic GCR and any guidelines as set forth in the Group’s regulations which are accepted by the SCCA National Office.
The purpose of the HRG is to promote venues for competitors who desire to race Historic cars (per rules previously used by the Volvo Historic Series) recognized by the SCCA and to promote the continuation of these historically significant automobiles as race cars.”

Coming in 2021

The 2021 schedule will not be final for a month or two. Plans are in the works for a few events with the Vintage Racing Group in addition to our regular SCCA weekends but the dates aren’t locked down yet. The season opener, at Lime Rock, with the Empire Drivers Club, June 4-5, 2021 will feature a memorial race to one of the founders, Dr. Al DeBoinis who passed away last month. La Corsa per Alberto (The Race for Albert) on Saturday June 5th will honor Al and his strong Italian heritage.
