2022 Season Begins

The start of the 2022 New England Road Racing Championship series began last weekend at Palmer Motorsports Park. Drivers returned to the track in Massachusetts for the first of 8 races in this year’s season lineup. This was also the first CRE weekend for 2022.

Almost 100 drivers attended the inaugural event weekend, which, unfortunately, began with multiple cars in group 3 taking out the tire walls at the entrance to the front straight on Saturday. Not how any driver wants to begin their regional racing season. Another incident later in the weekend, was a good reminder that all drivers, of all abilities, need to constantly monitor and maintain their safety equipment.

For the CRE, there were two Miatas, One Mini Cooper, and one Subaru lined up for the this session. This included a husband and wife racing together, one true novice to racing, and another experienced CRE driving participant returning for more track time.

Lastly – congratulations to the 3 drivers setting new track records. Glenn Kurkjian in GT2, Todd Parks in P1, Scott Smith in SE30 and Christian Sarnecki in SM2.

With no time to waste, race #2 is just around the corner, coming next weekend at the Bob Introne Memorial at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, May 14-15. Registration is currently open, and there will be a few special components to the weekend as we honor and remember Bob, who passed away in October.
